Damage dealing R/N build (Pophecies and EOTN)
Hi, everyone. Ive been playing guild wars for about a month now. I currently only have prophecies, but im planning on getting EOTN soon. Ive started getting more into pvp, but i feel pretty useless.
I was wondering what is a good dame dealing R/N from with only prophecies and EOTN.
Thanks.

Where are you? If you're a good bit into the game (At Droks), try a bar like this:
Dshot
Read The Wind
Hunter's Shot
Penetrating Attack
Rigor Mortis
(Elite)
Asuran Scan
(Optional)

i recommend not pvping unless you have all the games because you will disadvantaged(less skills, professions, weapon attributes blah blah). as for pve build, try finding a few elite skills and lookin up PvXwiki.com for build references.
it also helps to post what skills and what level you are.

@ Killamus: Hunter's Shot is pretty bad, Rigor Mortis could also cause you problems on a ranger.
@ Majik: Sure, he might have severe limitations to his effectiveness in PvP, but that's no reason not to PvP. It's a game, if you find PvP fun, do it.
Some elites that are worth a look at are Marksman's Wager, this will give you enough energy to spam high damage attack skills such as Penetrating Attack, Power Shot and Sloth Hunters Shot. This skills downside can be avoided by simply switching target, but if you are lazy you could probably afford to take Rigor Mortis with the extra energy you have available.
Another would be Barrage, it produces reasonable AoE damage. Not as good as it could be with Rit weapon spells.
Incendary Arrows is another AoE style skill. Similiar to barrage, it hits less foes but allows you to use a preperation. Ignite Arrows works well with it for some decent AoE damage.
Asura Scan is a great skill to use if you are going for single target damage, if your aiming towards one of the AoE skills try taking "Im Am The Strongest!".

I would agree with another above. PvP without having all the skills available to you simply gimps anything you could want.
One of the builds that I use in Jade Quarry is all proph/core except for natural stride, which really has no counterpart in proph/core skills when you play as R/N. You could use dodge I suppose, but the recharge is quite long and the block is for ranged only.
Rend Enchantments
(I hate bombers. This skill never leaves my side in JQ. N/A Bombers, Derv Bombers, General Assassins, General Elementalists. All of them can take a good rending. But my absolute favorite are those 55ers. There is nothing more satisfying than making someone who thinks they are invulnerable go SPLUT!)
Apply Poison
Incendiary Arrows
(These two work well together to apply poison/burning to multiple targets. Perfect number when dealing with archer shrines.)
Savage Shot
Distracting Shot
(Annoying the CRAP out of casters is the Rangers job. RoJ should not occur unless you are overrun by monks or they use anti-interrupt skills.)
Natural Stride
(This is the one skill that is not available to you, but could be replaced with Dodge or Storm Chaser maybe in a pinch, but really you are better off getting the Pvp skill unlock or getting the other campaigns.)
Whirling Defense
(Many people dislike using this skill due to the long recharge but I find it invaluable to quickly take out ranger shrines as the added damage from blocked arrows when you are right up on top of them added with the poison/burning degen can very quickly recap the shrine after a monk has blown his wad and RoJ'd the shrine. It's also useful when 100% ignoring the whammos attacking you so you can focus on taking out shrines while laughing that the whammo even exists.)
And Troll Unguent because you cannot rely on having monks around.
So at least for one version of PvP (Though not really pvp in some people's eyes) you could modify that build and be at least something in the battle.
However if you really want to get into pvp you will really want to get the pvp unlock or other campaigns.

I am not a ranger expert, but Markmans Wager seems to be a nice elite choice, coupled with some skills from the curse line, like Mark of Pain.
Or you may want to try barrage combined with weaken armor and body shot as an e-management.

I wouldn't recommend taking PvE skills into a PvP area.

pve-only skills are disabled in PvP so that's kind of out of the question...
a very effective uw smite (and other areas) farmer (NM) is a r/n toucher, which can be done with all proph/core/eotn skills
greater conflagration (elite)
storm chaser
vampiric bite
vampiric touch
unholy feast
troll unguent
dwarven stability
i am unstoppable!
wilderness survival 12+3+1
blood magic 12
expertise the rest +3
+10 vs fire shield, +45/stance
blood magic wand (I use gordac's needle)
Pyrebound armor set (max AL + all fire insignias), highest vigor you can afford, and vitaes
**all melee damage is converted to fire damage, which is elemental - hence, stormchaser for unlimited energy gain**
usage:
1) upon entering uw..take the quest (use stormchaser)...run back behind benton if you are chased
2) cast greater conflagration below the stairs (out of aatxe aggro range) - opposite from the side you are going to pull...
3) cast dwarven stability, IAS, stormchaser (pre-cast troll if you want), wand the mob of graspings and pull away from aatxes...spam all blood skills...you will never run out of energy...wand nightmare's if they pop...with 16 wilderness greater conflagration will last the duration of any mob fight
4) repeat with opposite side grasping mob and with roaming mob
5) once graspings are gone, walls will drop and you are free to run toward smites...just time the roaming grasping/aatxe/nightmare group at the end of the tunnel..watch dots on mini-map..once they start walking away, pre-cast troll, then dwarven, IAS, stormchaser, which should last all the way to the stairs before the first smite mob
6) once up the stairs, cast greater conflagration, dwarven, IAS, stormchaser then aggro all smites in hall....again, you will never run out of energy so just spam away...but DO NOT wand the smites...don't attack them...just touch them
7) this build will clear all of ice wastes, the coldfires take a little bit of extra time but they will go down
if done correctly, you will get to the smites in about 5-7 minutes...this build was created by Spun Ducky, so props to him...it's applicable to a great many areas that are heavy with melee and elementals

Burning Arrow is Nightfall. Not available to him. Rapid Fire, also not available. Disrupting can switch to savage to stay in the confines.
Turns that build into not much at all =/
Edit: Guess I need to read the post better also. EOTN skills will be available. Just not now.
